An accidental expat blogger behind Code Echo Amber

Hello, I am Olivia
I work as a project manager. I'm a parent and an expat living in Santa Monica, United States.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter abroad.
The Beginning
Relocating to United States wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it began as a work opportunity and quickly became something much bigger.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar processes, new habits, heightened expectations. Daily chores seemed more complex than expected.
The Adaptation Phase
There was cultural adjustment, ambiguity, and plenty of learning by doing. Gradually, routines took shape. We found spots that fit us, connected with other families, and began creating something that seemed steady.
Why I Created Code Echo Amber
Most online information was either corporate relocation guides or shallow tourism content. What was missing was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This website aims to bridge that gap—practical advice grounded in real life in United States.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Practical knowledge from living in United States
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated when something truly changes
This site ISN'T:
- An official tourism board resource
- A sponsored review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in United States goes on, and so does the learning process. As long as the information remains useful, I will continue to document what we learn.
If you have questions about family life in Santa Monica or anywhere in United States, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Cheers,
Olivia
